Heaven’s Leash started in 2008 after the loss of a beloved pet and the realization that there was no one there to help us, late at night, a week before Thanksgiving, and having to figure out a way to store her for the evening/overnight, finding that the emotional turmoil was great, and knowing others had to go through that same ordeal. We were fortunate to not have children experience the loss, and we were young enough to physically handle it, but the thought persisted..”What if?” What if we had children who were now grieving right along with us AND we had the burden of aftercare to decide and perform… What if we were in our 70’s and we had a 100 pound dog to take care of? And then we thought, why not provide that service? So we started.
With the help of one of Austin’s most beloved providers, we were able to find out more about the industry and were reassured and reaffirmed that the need for what we were suggesting to do was real. Not only had we gone through the loss ourselves with several pets over many years, as we started discussing the idea with friends and others, we were greeted with strong emotional support to go ahead. And thus, Heaven’s Leash was born.
We’ve had to step back for “life” a few times in the 15 years since we started, partially for COVID and then another period for higher education, but we’re back in force now and are dedicated to continue providing this amazing and tender service going forward.
We’re also looking into the idea of providing pet transportation for grooming, vet, and other appointments that you may need help with. Stay tuned with us via the “Contact Us” button for these developments. And please, share our site with those friends and family of yours with aging or ill pets that know this event may be coming in the upcoming months or years.
As always, thank you for the kindness and support we’ve been shown for our little business over the years. We’ve been proud to honor several hundred families in that time, and hope to continue to build that network of love, support, friendship, and of course, the wonderful pets we have in our families. They are truly special creatures, indeed.
